DreamWeaver MX Template Tutorial
Concepts

Templates are used to create a number of pages with common elements. Some regions of a template are locked to prevent changes. Other regions are editable to allow different content to be added to each page that uses the template. In this lesson, you will:

  • Review defining a site and creating a page
  • Layout a page to use as a template for other pages
  • Create a simple navigation bar on the template
  • Make new pages from that template
On this example page, you see a blue space at the top for a banner with navigation and a blue box at the bottom for the footer. After the template is complete, the top and bottom (blue) areas would be locked and would retain the same information on every page that uses the template. When the template itself is changed, those changes can be applied to all pages that use the template. This large white area is an editable region that allows new content for every page.

Remember that DreamWeaver provides multiple ways to accomplish various tasks. For this lesson, I have chosen one approach, but you should experiment with different ways of working in DreamWeaver.
